Fashion’s biggest event has shocked us once again! The 69th Annual Met Gala took place on Monday, where the world’s most influential designers flexed their creative muscles dressing the biggest celebrities.
This year’s host Anna Wintour, announced the theme as Avant-Garde, more specifically the vision of Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, a forerunner in experimental fashion since the seventies.
Given the theme we were expecting to see some crazy, out-there and unique masterpieces walking down the red carpet. Only the most famous figures could pull these extreme looks off, right? However, what is surprising is how influential the fashion at the Met Ball is. Many of the looks are reinterpreted into designers’ mainstream lines and inform the trends for the coming year. So what will you be wearing to your next big event?
Rihanna
Now, this is avant garde. Or is it Avant-Garden? That dress looks like it needs pruning. But Rihanna did get something right – florals! (That is if you can spot Rihanna!)
Florals are back with a vengeance and they are set to even dominate in Winter.

Blake Lively
America’s girl next door is looking very Hunger Games-esque in a Atelier Versace gown. It wasn’t just the feathers turning heads but the layered golden beading cascading down those killer curves that made this look a winner in our books. How does one girl have so much (and that includes hubby Ryan Reynolds)!

Jennifer Lopez
I’m feeling sixties glamour vibes from Jennifer Lopez here. The modest, ethereal look, including the high neck and soft pastel tones is becoming any girl’s go-to trend!

Kylie Jenner
It may not be as unique as other gowns but Kylie Jenner’s look is certainly glamorous and lavish. The detailing on the dress resembles the webbing of scales and the gold flecks appear like coral adorning her figure. Jenner makes the Little Mermaid go and check her sea shells in the mirror.

Selena Gomez
Selena is throwing it back to the 90s in this white floral slip number. To top the look off she’s even paired it with colourful pink lids and a teeny-weeny handbag as a clutch. So Fetch!
