Meet the gorgeous Jess from Perth! Renting clothes is a hobby business she runs from home whilst also studying medicine and working casually in Ambulance Transport. She loves yoga, walking her dog, drinking tea and clothes of course! We took 5 with her to see what it’s like to be a busy gal making some money on the side as a lender with The Volte. Where are you based?
Perth, WA

Tell us a bit about how you juggle being busy with studying, working and making cash on the side lending out your beautiful wardrobe?
It started as a solo venture with just a handful of dresses as a means to keep myself busy during time off from university. As the business grew I recruited my wonderful mum and we now share the load. Mum does all the try on appointments, mail outs and returns and I run the social media and messaging. I’ve just gone back to university full-time after two years off, so I have got someone new on board to help me run the messaging component too. I’m studying medicine, so its certainly a lot to manage but I love it!

How long have you been a Volte lender? 
I’ve been lending on The Volte about two years.

What style of fashion do you like to list on the platform? 
I like to list semi-formal and cocktail wear

What is your favourite personal go to brand? 
Loving Hansen and Gretel at the moment!

What are your most popular current pieces that hire often? 
My most popular current pieces are the Camellia Midi Dress by Bec & Bridge, The Lean Shoulder Mini in Green from By Johnny, and The Mariele Ruched Mini Dress by Sir.

What is your take on hiring fashion to reduce the war on waste? 
Hiring fashion is great in so many ways. One of these being the potential environmental benefits. I think that renting clothes does influence people’s tendency to rely on fast fashion that is worn usually once and then disregarded in their closet. It has greatly increased the number of people who can access and wear beautiful designer pieces.

What are your top 3 best things about lending with The Volte?
1) Fantastic support from staff
2) Prompt mediation of any issues
3) The feeling of safety I have when lending out my designer pieces
