5 minutes with: Stylist Clare Ryan

After working with designers like established designers 1 Fell Swoop and Sass and Bide, Perth stylist Clare Ryan knows a thing or two about how to dress to impress.

We chat to Clare about the easiest fashion hacks to stay on trend this Autumn.

V: Clare, what inspired you to become a stylist?

C: I always knew that I would work in a creative field, whether that was art, fashion, photography or design, and it all merges together, which I love it. I was obsessed with fashion magazines and I would stare at the creative editorial spreads for hours. I remember Googling who Grace Coddington was and I was instantly hooked, she was more than a stylist, she was a creative.

V: How will rental couture change the industry and the fashion world?

C: There are so many pros and cons with this subject, but the industry (like many others) is constantly changing and it’s changing fast. I think that if rental couture can find a way to support the designers and boutique owners, then the retail industry can become stronger. I think it gives people the opportunity to wear a brand that they normally would never wear and if they fall in love with it, then they might go and purchase another dress from that designer in the future.

V: What are some of the main fashion dos and don’ts you’ve become familiar with over the years?

C: Haha, that’s hard! I’m personally, not a fan of women wearing thin, see-through leggings as pants –  exercise leggings are a thicker material, so if they want to keep wearing them, then they need to make the switch.

V: What is a staple item of your wardrobe you cannot live without?

C: Jeans! Skinny, Boyfriend, ripped, flared…you name the style and I have it. Seriously, what did women do before jeans?

V: Help! How do I dress for a corporate cocktail event?

C: Are pants an option? Haha. If they are, then black pants a silk shirt in a rich colour or print like burgundy, emerald green or navy and some heels. Otherwise a beautiful lace dress would easily work.

THE VOLTE PICK

Our gorgeous client Amy is rocking our lovely Zimmerman Gossamer Scallop dress, the perfect work-to-play frock!

V: Date? Can’t I just wear my thongs and track pants? No? What’s some of your latest tricks for looking effortlessly stylish on a date, Clare?

C: Is it a first date? Just make sure you’re comfortable. Black jeans with a denim shirt is super relaxed and simple. It gives you room to add some necklaces and a bit of lipstick if you like. I would wear my Adidas sneakers, but a little heel would add that final touch.

V: Easter weekend is coming up which means Sunday drinks! What to wear? Any tips?

C: A playsuit takes the hassle out of organizing an outfit. Team it with a jacket or bomber and some sneakers, and you’re set!

We are beyond excited to have Clare join the #voltesquad and be a part of our growing team!
